Here are more market summaries for Wed, May 31, 2006: poor May, Dell, Google, Netgear.

  • NEWS:
  • The 3 major market indexes (S&P, Nasdaq, Dow) all have had their worst May in 2 or more years.
  • STOCKS:
    • Dell Computers (NYSE: DELL) announced they’ll include the free Skype software preloaded on their new laptops. Skype is a quality free IM (Internet Messaging software that allows text/ audio/ video calling. That is, it supports VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). I say, big deal. It’s not like you couldn’t have downloaded and installed it yourself. There’s no reason that this small gesture should increase the value of Dell stock.
    • Google (NYSE: GOOG) is at around US$372 a share today, and has been downrated from a future high of $490. This is despite their deal with Dell to be the default search toolbar on all new Dell computers. There are rumours of a Google web browser, but as a long-time webmaster (and former search engine webmaster) myself, I don’t see this happening. Unless they manage to buyout the open source Mozilla or Firefox browsers. Or Netscape. Or Opera. You get the picture. If such a browser purchase happens, Google would have a huge advantage over Microsoft, at least with Dell computer purchasers There are also rumours that Google is setting up the wiring across the United States for their own Internet.
    • Netgear Inc. (NYSE: NTGR) Mad Money host Jim Cramer was strongly recommending this stock yesterday because of their new Skype Wi-Fi Phone. His feeling is that this phone might just be the one to make VoIP work.
