Here are some market summaries and/or stocks to watch for Thur, Jun 1, 2006: commodities, oil/ Ira, housing, fuel cells, Dell, AMD:

  • NEWS:
  • With an expected increase in the number of major hurricanes this year, agricultural commodities may be severely affected, as might supermarket prices. Also affected will be offshore oil production, which was affected by hurricanes, last year and is still recovering.
  • Pending home sales in the United States are down in all regions except in the South. This may or may not have to do with the average price increase of about 10% between Q1 2005 and Q1 2006.
  • Six world powers have agreed on sanctions against Iran, but one expert says that Iran produces enough oil that if they stop production, oil could go past $100 per barrel.
  • STOCKS:
    • AMD (NYSE: AMD) has new production changes that will allow it to supply 1/3 of processor demands in the market by 2008. These changes are sure to give Intel a run for their money. And given that Dell Computers has decided to go with AMD processors, AMD might be a nice long-term stock to consider.
    • Watch stocks related to hybrid fuel cells, especially those owned by American car manufacturers. [More about this in the future.]
